From Berlin to Alcobaça — 3,450 km · 6 countries · 20 days
I had originally planned to share only the black-and-white photographs from this journey. But looking back, it now feels right to share the colour images as well.
This was not a photographic expedition. Most of the time, I had very little opportunity to stop, prepare the camera, or carefully compose a scene. These photographs were taken in the moment, often between kilometres, with little time to think.
Ironically, what I did have was time to think while riding. Hour after hour on the bicycle gave me the opportunity to enjoy the journey, contemplate the landscapes, dream, and reflect. The road became a place for ideas as much as for kilometres.
Turning this challenge into reality meant accepting uncertainty. Every day brought new situations that I couldn’t control, and perhaps that was part of what made the experience so rewarding.
One thing I regret is not photographing more of the people I met along the way. They became an important part of this journey. Many offered me water, invited me into their homes, shared meals, conversations, kindness, and generosity.
To all of them, thank you. I will never forget your hospitality.
