22.07.2026 – Praia dos salgados, Nazaré Portugal
Today, I took a walk along Salgados Beach, just south of Nazaré. It’s a vast, unspoilt stretch of coastline with impressive sand dunes and more than two kilometres of shoreline. The scenery is beautiful and provides the perfect setting for landscape and coastal photography.
This is Salgados Beach, an unspoilt and unguarded beach where swimming can be extremely dangerous. Over the years, many lives have been lost here due to the powerful currents, hidden rip currents, and the sea’s unpredictable nature. Anyone visiting should treat the ocean with great respect and exercise extreme caution.
In the distance to the north, you can see Praia do Norte (North Beach), world-famous for its giant waves, which can exceed 30 metres (100 feet) under the right conditions. These extraordinary waves gained international recognition thanks to big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara, who helped put Nazaré on the map as one of the world’s premier destinations for extreme surfing.
