My “Camera Bag” sistem for bikepacking,

Why take my mirrorless camera with me?
If you ask me, “But does it make a difference for a bike trip to carry a camera instead of just a mobile phone? ” Well, that’s the big question! For me, yes! I enjoy photography and the act of photographing For me, it makes all the difference. But of course, the effort of carrying a camera on the bike has to be comfortable, to make sense. The cellphone is perfectly adequate for some landscapes and elements along the way, but sometimes I’m looking for more than that. Photography is an experience in itself.
The Camera.
I like to travel and I always take my camera with me. It’s a compact mirrorless camera but with high image quality, with small lenses such as 22, 30, and 50mm It’s a great setup for traveling. I always try to have cameras with image quality superior to my iPhone, That’s the only way it makes sense to carry them with me.

The iPhone has extremely aggressive pixel interpolation and a lot of digitally created artifacts, The typical watercolor effect is evident and a very artificial sharpness. It’s still digital photography from a mobile phone for now, and 40MP don’t necessarily mean quality, it´s just a giant image.
But! I have to admit! I love my iphone, and the photos I get from this device are increasingly surprising with each new model, the video quality is fantastic with very good stabilization, very capable.
Camera bag for bikepacking, waterproof, dirt-resistant and sweat-resistant.
I really enjoy photography and it has always been difficult ride my bike with a camera. I sweat a lot, all my equipment gets wet in a matter of minutes.
In addition to the sweat, I also have to deal with dirt, rain, dust, splashes, etc., because I do both mountain biking and gravel riding. It’s not easy deciding to go on a bike trip with your camera knowing you could damage it!

The Bag:
This year I came up with a solution based on the existing technique of carrying a camera on a bicycle, but this time with a bag that allows me to keep the camera always protected from my sweaty body and the elements, while maintaining the practicality of being able to use the camera whenever I need to, even while riding, without having to stop most of the time.
I developed a bag with two layers of waterproof fabric, and between the two layers I also placed a thermal insulation material similar to the materials we put on car windows to protect them from the sun.
This way it is also protected against some minor impacts.
I also created a system with elastic bands that keeps the camera fixed to the bag without the risk of falling out, which acts as an extender that allows me to move the camera a little further away for framin.
The elastic goes through some loops that are located in the top corners inside bag .
The elastic bands have a drawstring that allows the band to be lengthened or shortened depending on your preference. It also helps keep the camera close to the zipper of the bag. With this system, the camera can go outside or inside the bag when I ride! 🙂

The experience:
I’ve done many long bike trips, including through Europe, and I’ve only taken my mobile phone with me. This year, in May 2026, I’m going to do another 4000km bike ride through Europe, I’m planning taking my Canon with me. The tests I did with this bag have yielded results for me. I have a few more months to do some short test trips and adjustments.
